Showmax, the African streaming platform, has just revealed its latest Ghanaian original series, “The Billionaire’s Wife”. This ten-part drama, directed and produced by Ad-Visors’ Danny Adotey and Collins Amlalo, follows the story of Adepa, a 19-year-old woman from the Ashaiman slums who marries a rich older man in the hopes of changing her luck. However, she soon finds herself in a world of power and privilege where she must fight to prove herself and avoid being labeled a gold digger.
The show boasts an impressive cast including newcomer Andriana Akua Amegbor in the lead role, alongside Kingsley Yamoah, Roselyn Ngissah, Ken Fiati, Pascaline Edwards, Selassie Ibrahim, Helen Lois, Ophelia Walker, Godwin Kwesi Blay Ekra Jnr, comedian Foster Romanus, and newcomer Florence Nana Ama Agyei.
According to Amlalo, the inspiration for “The Billionaire’s Wife” comes from the rise of social media and the normalization of relationships driven by money, particularly between older men and younger women. This is the third Ghanaian original from Showmax, following the successful Shirley Frimpong-Manso drama “ENO” and the docu-reality series “My Perfect Funeral”.
“The Billionaire’s Wife” is set in the bustling city of Accra and promises to deliver 45 minutes of scandalous drama and intrigue with each episode. The show will premiere exclusively on Showmax from March 2nd, 2023, with new episodes airing every Monday. Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice, Dr. Busola Tejumola, expressed her excitement about the show’s release, saying, “Across Africa, the appetite for local content is stronger than ever… We are excited to unveil ‘The Billionaire’s Wife’, another premium Original drama series that will captivate Ghanaian viewers and push the Ghanaian television industry to greater heights.”
